About Us

Francis House was founded in 1990 by Sister Anne Dougherty, a Franciscan Sister, after working with HIV/AIDS patients at a local hospital. These patients asked for a place that they could go where they would be accepted after feeling rejected and alienated by their families, their friends and their faiths. Francis House started in a room of a local church and has been in the Florida Ave. location since 1990.

Francis House has been consistently providing supportive services to the HIV/AIDS Community. The core services of support groups, mental health counseling and addictions counseling are still being provided along with many other specialized programs. Francis House is funded through government grants, private foundations and local community donors.

Francis House serves over 200 unduplicated individuals each year. 2007 brought a huge increase in the number of clients served. Our support groups yielded over 3,000 client visits, we fed over 2,800 individuals and provided recreational activities to over 450 clients.

Francis House is staffed by three full time employees, three part time employees and a full time volunteer receptionist. Francis House is largely supported by the clients of Francis House, who help us with many of the daily activities that are not funded through our grants.
